December 2010

I’ve always wanted a Roku XD Streaming Player 1080p,a device that connects your TV to your high speed Internet connection to watch Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, Hulu, and many other instant streaming movies.  It installs in five minutes, and has four star ratings!  Right now, it’s $79.99 – but, Amazon is offering a promotional that if you purchase or rent a movie, TV episode, or TV season of $5 or more from Amazon Video on Demand between December 7, 2010 and January 3, 2011, you will receive an email notifying you that a $20 credit has been applied to your Amazon.com account, good towards the purchase of a Roku XD Streaming Player, along with instructions on how to redeem.

To make this deal any better, Amazon is offering a $5 Video on Demand credit if you link you Twitter and Amazon accounts.  Hopefully, the Roku XD Streaming Player 1080pwill drop in price between now and February 5, 2011, when you have to use your $20 credit – but, even if doesn’t, $59.99 isn’t a bad price for the Roku XD Streaming Player 1080p.

Amazon: TV Shows on Sale!

by sarah on 12/29/2010

We don’t have cable TV, so we depend on Hulu and CBS to get our fix of TV shows.  But, many times, we miss a really great episode, so I was thrilled to see so many TV show series on sale at Amazon this week.  I’m sensing a movie marathon for our New Year’s Eve Celebration!  :)   To make this deal even better – you receive $5 worth of eligible movies and TV shows from Amazon Video On Demand after you order your item. (This is limited to one promotional credit per customer.)  Here are some of my favorites!

Castle: The Complete First Season is $11.49, that’s a 62% discount, the lowest I’ve ever seen!

Or, if you love medical shows, several seasons of House are discounted to $14.99.  House, M.D.: Season Five is one of them.

If you prefer comedies, many seasons of “The Office” such as The Office: Season Six are on sale for $14.99 and all seasons of Seinfeldare $15.99.

Make sure to check out all these great TV Shows that are discounted for 65% or more!

Leftover Ideas

by sarah on 12/29/2010

If you’re like me and have tons of leftover from Christmas dinner that your family doesn’t want to eat for the 70th time, here are some great recipe ideas:

Picture from AllRecipes.com

Baked Potato Soup
I made a few modifications to this recipe to use my leftover ham.  You can also add some corn (if you have any on hand) when you add the milk.

::Fill your crockpot with 3 cups of chicken broth.
::Chop up leftover ham into little cubes, and dice 5 medium potatoes.  Add them to the broth.
::Leave the crockpot on low for 4-5 hours.
::Thirty minutes before you’re ready for dinner, scoop out one cup of the broth from the crockpot.
::Add 3 tablespoons of flour to the broth.  Mix until smooth (no lumps).
::Pour the flour mixture back into the crockpot and stir.
::Add one cup of milk (if you want very creamy soup, use Half & Half or Heavy Whipping Cream).
::Season with a dash of pepper and basil.
::Let the soup cook another 30 minutes and it will be ready to serve.

Ham & Egg Casserole
I love this recipe, when we have company staying overnight.  I utilize my ham leftovers, make the casserole the night before, and just pop it into the oven the next morning.  It’s so simple and everyone loves it!  I’ve seen this recipe a number of different ways, but my favorite method is:

::Grease a 9×13 glass baking dish.
::Cube one loaf of day old bread (approximately 4 cups) and spread it evenly in the dish.
::Dice three cups of ham and sprinkle it over the bread.
::In a separate bowl, beat a dozen eggs, one cup of milk, and a dash of pepper.
::Pour the egg mixture over the bread and ham.  Cover, and place in the refrigerator overnight.
::The next morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
::Uncover the baking dish, and place in the oven.  Cook for approximately one hour, until the top is brown and the eggs are cooked.
