Congratulations to our winner, Janice! Thanks to all who entered!
Between August 4-5, from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM, the annual BrickFair LEGO Fan Festival will be held at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA. It will be a dream world for LEGO-lovers, as they explore over 100,000 square feet of LEGO models, displays and winding trains. While I’ve never been much of a LEGO connoisseur, our four-year old daughter received a quadruple dose of LEGO-obsessed genes! She and my husband spend hours constructing three-story car garages, intricate circular homes, and other fun architecture that I trip over in the middle of the night.
So, you can guess where our family will be during the first weekend in August!
Despite my occasional diatribe when I impale my foot on a LEGO piece, I do think LEGOs are an excellent way of introducing children to basic engineering and math concepts. And, it’s wonderful that BrickFair brings together adult fans of LEGOs from across the USA (and Canada and a few other countries!) to show off their projects, great and small, and to share their passion for LEGOs with DC-area families!
Not only will you be inspired as you “ooh” and “ahh” over all the LEGO creations, those of you with LEGO-loving children will love BrickFair’s “Stay & Play” area. It is a room full of LEGO bricks where kids and parents can exert their creative energies and build their own masterpieces. BrickFair understands the difficulty in enjoying all the LEGO models without touching, so they created the Stay & Play room, so you can dig in! {The bricks do stay with them, so they can be enjoyed at the next BrickFair.}
BrickFair will also have many LEGO vendors, so you can find all things LEGO, including shirts, hats, minifigures, custom-molded weapons, unique models, keychains and… really… everything you never imagined.
Entrance fees into BrickFair are a flat: $10 per person. Children ages 3 and under are FREE. Aside from that, there are no other discounts available. You can purchase tickets at the door – there are no advanced purchase options.
{Giveaway Details}
Washington Family Magazine, one of the sponsors for this amazing event, is offering one of my readers a pack of FOUR tickets to attend (plus, you will receive a special voucher for a Free Lego Build-Mat)! To enter, just let me know who loves LEGOs in your family. This contest is open to the US and will close at 11:59 PM on July 20, 2012. I will draw the winner by Random.org, and they will have 48 hours to respond to the email notification that they won.

We all love LEGOs over here. I used to love following the directions exactly and made sure that everything was just as it was supposed to look. My husband has a huge tub from his childhood but he’s creative and invents his creations. My 6 year old just learned how to follow the “directions” to use the kits but she likes creating with her dad also. The twins (age 4) try to get in the action with the small LEGOs but do a lot better with the duplos. And the baby (9 months) just tries to eat all the LEGOs that are dropped on the floor!

We all love Legos in our family. The older boy likes to follow the instructions and the younger boy likes to create his own inverntions. We are now in the Ninjago and Star Wars phase with a bit of Harry Potter thrown in for good measure. I am hoping they don’t get interested in the new Lord of the Rings sets. We haven’t been to a brickfair so this would be way cooll!

Way to go LEGO!

I have 5 kids, three of which are boys. My one son who is now 14 has been playing with Legos for years and has passed so many down to my youngest who’s 6. My one son was such a wizard at putting them together, friends would ask him over to help their younger ones. Sometimes he would put sets together in a day that had hundreds of pieces without looking at the directions. Wish I had a separate room in the hose for all the displays!!
I am so glad I stumbled upon your site. I never even knew about Brickland at the convention center. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
Our daughter Andria who is 5 loves building Legos with her father. He spends a lot of time at work in DC – so this is one of their ways to have daddy daughter time and connect.
