Family Entertainment in Washington, DC
The Lucketts Fair on August 18 & 19
Saturday, August 18th signals the start of the 2012 Lucketts Fair! Admission is $5/person and children 6 and under are free! kids can take a pony ride through the woods and visit a farmyard petting zoo. There will also be face painting, and hands-on farm and nature exhibits. For adults, there will be more than 100 Crafters. Many artisans will demonstrate their craftsmanship on site. The Reader’s Garden will have over 20 well known local authors who will talk about, sign and sell their work. And, of course, there will be great food, from traditional barbeque and country ham sandwiches to Lucketts’ famous Hand-Churned Ice Cream.
Prince William County Fair from August 10-18
The last day of the Prince William County Fair is tomorrow, August 18th. For advanced price tickets, click here, a discount of $3 for adult tickets. At the door, tickets will be $8 (Adult, Daily Pass); $5 (Child, 5-13, Daily Pass); $5 (Senior, 60+, Daily Pass), Children 4 and under are free! Montgomery County Agricultural Fair from August 10-18
The last day of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair is tomorrow, August 18th. At the door, tickets will be $10 (Adult, Daily Pass) and FREE for children 11 and under. Maryland Tax Free Weekend, August 12th – 18th
This week is Maryland is Tax Free (Virginia residents, in case you missed tax free weekend, here is another chance!). Sales and use tax does not apply to the sale of any items of clothing or footwear, excluding accessory items, if the taxable price of the item of clothing or footwear is $100 or less.
Free Fireworks Show at Gaylord National
Be dazzled by Gaylord National’s free fireworks shows over the Potomac River, every Saturday night at 9:30 PM. It’s an unforgettable way to end a summer evening. Weather permitting. Kids Visit Free at the Newseum All Summer
The Newseum will waive its admission fee for all youth visitors ages 18 and under, regularly $12.95, from July 1 through Labor Day, Sept. 3, 2012. The Newseum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Admission is $21.95 for adults, $17.95 for seniors (65 and older), and $12.95 for youth (7 to 18).
Loudoun County Farmers’ Markets
Over the weekend, Loudoun County offers a number of wonderful Farmers’ Markets throughout the area. I attended the Leesburg Market last weekend, and was very pleasantly surprised to find the wealth of fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables they offered! While prices are comparable (or a little more expensive) than you would find in our nearby grocery stores, the produce is definitely fresher and lasts considerably longer.
