This was such a wildly popular post that I’m bringing back a list of the Fall 2012 Consignment Sales in Northern Virginia. I’ve listed ones the popular ones in the area, but I’m sure I’ve missed a few. If you would like to add your business to this list, please email capitallyfrugal(at)gmail.com, with the information about your sale. I will try to update the list, as fast as possible.
I’m often asked what my favorite consignment sales are, and I must say it’s so hard to choose! I regularly attend Just Between Friends of Loudoun County and Kids Closet Connection at the Leesburg Armory, because they are some of the biggest sales closest to me. And, I’ve enjoyed both immensely. Just Between Friends tends to have better deals on clothing for a longer period of time, while Kids Closet Connection has great prices for the first two hours (then, you really have to dig to find a bargain). And, as you can imagine, the lines are long for both. I highly suggest finding a babysitter, if you’re planning to attend. It’s much easier to deal with the jostling crowds and hour-long lines if you’re not juggling a crying child as well.
I’ve also found a great way to combat the long lines – find a friend who wants to attend the consignment sale and take turns standing in line and browsing.
Consignment sales are a terrific way to make a little money on the gently used children’s items in your house. If you’re anything like us, you probably have an overabundance of kids’ clothes, books, toys, and random gear! While we try to share our “stuff” with friends and family, there are times when we can’t find anyone interested in it (I mean, who really wants that loudly annoying baby cell phone that repeats itself ad nauseum?!). So, instead of overloading the dumpsters (many of our thrift stores refuse toys and baby gear), we decided to sell it very cheaply. Parents shopping at consignment sales are overjoyed with their “great finds” and you are jubilant over cleaning your home and making a few extra dollars. I’ve included the percentage of sales that consignors make for each sale, so browse through the list to find one that works with your schedule and gives you the most return for your labor!
