S’More Fun – The Hershey Way!

S'Mores in a Basket

Did you know there is a day dedicated to the delightful ooey, gooey stickiness that is a s’more?  I had no idea that I missed 28 s’more holidays, until I met the amazing Hershey duo (Samantha and Anna!) in New York City.

S'Mores on a Stick

So, to make up for all the missed opportunities to enjoy chocolate, Hershey generously sent us two baskets, filled with Honey Maid Graham Crackers, America’s Favorite Jet-Puffed Marshmallows, and the finest Hershey Milk Chocolate Squares!  We decided that such an abundance of sugar shouldn’t be hoarded and invited friends and neighbors to celebrate National S’More Day 2012 with us.

S'Mores in a Microwave (Experimenter Shall Remain Nameless!)

Since we live in an apartment, I hoped to head to the park, so we could grill in style!  But, sadly, August 10th was the day of grand thunderstorms in Northern Virginia.  Not to be thwarted by a few raindrops, we took our party indoors and got creative.  And, despite failed attempts to roast marshmallows on our griddle and in the microwave, we finally found two perfect indoor s’more techniques.

S'Mores in an Oven

For the more cautious cooks among us, you can bake your graham cracker, marshmallow, and chocolate in the oven.  Just preheat your oven to 350 degrees, wrap your creation in aluminum foil (I individually wrapped six of them and placed them on a cookie sheet), and stick it in the oven.  I rotated the packets, so each side was warmed for five minutes. And, when I pulled them out, they were melt-in-your-mouth yummy!

S'Mores on a Stove!

For those of you (who are like my husband) and don’t consider a s’more a success unless your marshmallow catches on fire, you can roast your marshmallow over the stove.  Just turn on a burner, stick a marshmallow on a non-wooden, cooking implement, and carefully rotate the marshmallow like you would over a campfire.  The result?  A camp experience right in your kitchen!

S'Mores in Your Hand!

Thanks to Hershey, our National S’More Day was wonderful!  And, in Dr. Seuss-ian fashion, we discovered there is no wrong way to enjoy a s’more!  On a plane, on a train…on a stick, on a brick…  Regardless, it will always satisfy your craving!

{Disclosure: Hershey generously gave our family two baskets full of s’more ingredients and provided my transportation to and from BlogHer’12!}
