Alexandria Story Festival
The 3rd Annual Alexandria Story Festival will be this Saturday, September 15 2012, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, at the T.C. Williams High School (3330 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22302). Local establishments around town are participating in their 1st Scavenger Hunt. Go to each location and discover which author they have and write it on your scavenger hunt sheet. Each place you visit will give you a small memento. Visit all 12 locations and you’ll have 12 mementos!
H Street Festival
The entire H Street community invite you to join them on September 15, 2012 for HStreetFestival2012, DC’s best neighborhood Festival. They’ve planned an all day party from noon to 7pm for young and old alike. In addition to all of the stuff that made last year’s festival great – like the live music on 5 stages, the artcars, the Baltimore Rock Opera Society, the fashion shows, the patio cafes and the street parades, they’ve added even more entertainment and events to HStreetFestival2012’s 6 blocks of Urban Fun.
31st Annual Celebrate Gaitherburg Festival
Come out for a day of music, food, arts, crafts, and amusements at the 31st Annual Celebrate Gaithersburg in Olde Towne on Sunday, September 16. The festival is open from Noon to 5 p.m. and takes place in and around the intersection of Diamond and Summit Avenues. Admission is free.
150th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam
Antietam National Battlefield will observe the 150th Anniversary of the battle, from September 14-22, 2012. Planned programs include tours, hikes, music, children’s activities, living history, guest lecturers and memorial ceremonies. In addition, the park is part of a regional effort to commemorate the entire Maryland Campaign of 1862. Five National Parks, one Maryland State Park, and numerous county and private organizations are working together to provide opportunities across the region from late August through September 22nd.
Bluemont Fair
Bluemont in western-most Loudoun County, Virginia, is hosting the 43rd Annual Bluemont Fair, on September 15 & 16, 2012 from 10AM to 5PM both days, rain or shine. Admission is still only $5/adults, under 10 free, with free parking available. Both days of the fair feature food, crafts, music and lots of activities for all ages throughout the historic village. On the Old Schoolhouse grounds will be nearly 100 juried crafters displaying their wares, with many also providing demonstrations, including on-site Pottery making courtesy of Bluemont’s own Amy Oliver of Monkeytown Pottery.
The 36th Annual Maryland Renaissance Festival
The Maryland Renaissance Festival continues this weekend, September 14 & 15. It is open from 10 AM – 7 PM, rain or shine and is located on Crownsville Road, in Anne Arundel County in Crownsville, just outside of Annapolis, MD. This festival features everything from archery demonstrations and knighting ceremonies to Shakespearean plays and knife juggling! Tickets for $17/adult and $8/child (ages 7-15).
Loudoun County Farmers’ Markets
Over the weekend, Loudoun County offers a number of wonderful Farmers’ Markets throughout the area. I attended the Leesburg Market last weekend, and was very pleasantly surprised to find the wealth of fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables they offered! While prices are comparable (or a little more expensive) than you would find in our nearby grocery stores, the produce is definitely fresher and lasts considerably longer.
