Fall brings cooler weather, vibrant colored leaves, and pumpkin picking! Living in Loudoun County, we’ve been spoiled with an abundance of terrific pumpkin patches. Since I’m often asked where we like to pick pumpkins, our favorite family orchard is Wegmeyer Farms, a 19th century farmstead in Hamilton, VA that offers pick-your-own pumpkins and raspberries in the fall and strawberries and blackberries in the spring. It’s nicely laid out; you don’t have to walk a mile to get to the pumpkins; and, the price of their pumpkins is one of the cheapest around, at $0.50/lb (with no additional entrance fee!).
Since I have so many readers throughout the DC area (and, not just Northern Virginia), I’ve put together a list of farms in Maryland and Northern Virginia that offer pumpkin picking. {If I’ve missed a farm, feel free to email their information to capitallyfrugal(at)gmail(dot)com and I will add it as soon as possible.} And, stay tuned for some great pumpkin recipes, coming next week!
