2012 National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Ever since moving to the DC Metro area over ten years ago, I’ve wanted to experience the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.  December is my favorite time of year with its cold weather, holiday shopping and baking, and beautiful Christmas music; and, it seems like the Lighting Ceremony would be a fitting way to kick off our holiday!  Unfortunately, millions of other people have the same idea, and I’ve never won the “lottery” for Tree Lighting Tickets.

Yes, for those of you who are new to the area, there is an actual lottery to attend the Lighting Ceremony!  {And, no, I’ve never won it in my entire 10 years of living here, either for the Easter Egg Hunt or the Christmas Ceremony.  Not that I’m bitter about this.}  But, perhaps, you’ll be more lucky!  So, be sure to turn in your “application” between next week Thursday, October 25th at 10:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Monday, October 29th.  It’s a very simple process, and you’ll be done within a few minutes!

This year, the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012.  Wondering what exactly happens at the event?  Here is a brief description from their website:

Celebrating its 90th year, the ceremony is a time-honored holiday tradition which includes the illumination of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse just south of the White House. Nationally known entertainers and a United States military band add to the celebratory evening in which the President is invited to bring a message of peace to the nation and the world. With the White House as the back drop, in what becomes the “Christmas Pathway of Peace”, the National Christmas Tree and 56 smaller trees – one for each state, five territories, and the District of Columbia – serve as the focal point of the event. The Christmas Pathway of Peace is lit each evening at dusk until 10:00 PM (ET) through January 1, 2013. Each tree is decorated with unique ornaments created by an artist and volunteers from that state, territory or District of Columbia.

The seasonal displays this year will include a Santa’s Workshop, sponsored by UL. The Workshop will be open at select times for children to explore and get a free photo with Santa. And for the 18th consecutive year, the National Christmas Tree Railroad will provide model trains that surround the base of the National Christmas Tree. The trains will run from 10:00 AM (ET) to 10:00 PM (ET) daily through January 1, 2013.

If you don’t get chosen, don’t worry!  You can join me in watching it via live webcast! :)  And, you can still visit Santa’s Workshop on the Ellipse and enjoy free concerts set against the backdrop of the National Christmas Tree throughout December.

I’ll wait until we have a president and presidential family that believes in this country and believes in God in office. I am sick and tired of the fascist Obama’s and can’t wait to see them go. So I’ll apply next year.

I remember the good ole days when you could go to the lighting
of the Christmas Tree on the ellipse with no problem at all.
I missed out on this year’s lottery because I didn’t even
know about it and the past 2 years I wasn’t chosen.
If anyone has any tickets they don’t use I will be
eternally grateful. And if you would like to know
how long I’ve lived in the DC Metro Area try November 28, 1965.
Feel free to contact me at jmtsmall@cox.net Thank you.
It is not very easy to come by these tickets and watching
on a computer is not the same at all. Thank you.
