Walmart & HP Challenge {& a $20 Walmart GC Giveaway!}

by sarah on 10/22/2012

This giveaway has now ended.  Congratulations to our winner, Katy!

Did you know that HP developed an XL ink cartridge that fits in your HP printer like a regular cartridge, but holds more ink?  The best part is that HP’s broad assortment of XL inks are now available at Walmart so you can stock up on ink when you buy groceries, and save up to 40% on printing with HP’s XL ink cartridges.* {*Compared with single, standard HP ink cartridges. Based on average retail pricing, actual prices may vary.}

Our Shopping Haul

To demonstrate the ease of purchasing household necessities and printer ink at Walmart, we were given a $75 gift card to purchase an HP XL ink cartridge and use the remainder to fill our carts with groceries!  With holidays just around the corner, I decided to use part of my gift card to stock up on canned goods/non-perishable items for a local food bank, Loudoun Interfaith Relief.  Ever since my husband’s company provided IT support for them, he’s wished we could be a more active participant in their efforts.  And using a portion of our gift card seemed like the perfect way!

But, lest you think that we were completely altruistic, we did make a few purchases for ourselves!  My car has been in desperate need of new windshield wipers, so we grabbed a new set, along with De-icer Fluid to make frost removal more bearable in the mornings!  Plus, we still had a little leftover to re-stock our supply of laundry detergent and toilet tissue.

By combining Walmart’s Everyday Low Prices and a few of my coupons, I was able to get:
(2) Quilted Norther 12 pack of Toilet Paper – $14.94
(2) Mac & Cheese – $1.96
(1) Stovetop Stuffing – $1.98
(2) Ragu Sauce – $2.88
(2) Chicken Noodle Soup Bowls – $2.96
(1) Jiffy Peanut Butter – $3.98
(1) Purex Laundry Detergent, 100 oz – $5.77
(1) Deicer Wash – $2.97
(2) Michelin Wipers – $13.94
(1) HP XL Ink – $27.98
(2) Progressive Chicken Noodle Soup Cans – $2.96
(1) Progressive Italian Wedding Soup – $1.48
(1) Progressive Chicken Corn Chowder – $1.48
(2) Uncle Ben’s Brown Rice – $2.00
(4) Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup – $3.00

Subtotal: $90.28
After Coupons: $76.13 (excludes 5.0% sales tax)

And, this challenge also encouraged me to make my first video, a very nerve-wracking experience for someone who hates public speaking.  :)   But, my husband kindly shot it multiple times, without shooting me, for which we are all very grateful!  You can enjoy it for your morning’s amusement.  Just to warn you: Katie Couric, I am not! :)

{Giveaway Details}
To reward you for making it all the way to the end of the post, we’re giving away a $20 Walmart Gift CardTo enter, just let me know what you would print with HP’s XL ink.  And, be sure to leave your email address so I have a way of contacting you if you win!  This contest is open to the US and will close at 11:59 PM on October 27, 2012.  I will draw the winner by Random.org, and they will have 48 hours to respond to the email notification that they won.

For extra entries:

2) Follow Capitally Frugal on Twitter. (Leave your Twitter ID.)
