This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to our winner, Trisha!
Are you starting to plan your children’s Spring Vacation activities? The National Geographic Museum in Washington DC has a number of wonderful family-friendly events, starting in March.
On March 8, “Real Pirates” will open at the National Geographic Museum (and stay up through September 2), making it an ideal stop for families in town during spring and summer school breaks. “Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship,” tells the story of a slave ship turned pirate ship and the diverse people whose lives converged on the vessel. Many of the artifacts from the ship will be on display in the exhibit, including weapons such as swords, cannons, muskets and pistols as well as daily necessities such as tools, kitchen utensils, buttons, coins and personal belongings from the captain’s quarters. In addition, visitors can climb aboard a replica of the ship and experience what it was like in the captain’s quarters and below deck.
Looking for a unique birthday party venue? The National Geographic Museum has got you covered! In conjunction with the new exhibit, the Museum will also be offering “Pirate Birthday Parties” which will include a private party room, goody bags filled with fun pirates treasures, a private tour and treasure hunt in the Real Pirates exhibit led by National Geographic staff, and much more.
And, lastly, the Museum invites children ages 9 to 16 to sign up for “The Art of Nature Writing”, a writing class for the next generation of National Geographic writers. Taught by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Holland, the course is $30 per child and will be held on Saturday, March 9. Tickets can be purchased here.

Sounds like some fun exhibits. We went to the NatGeo Museum years ago (it was free back then) when my oldest was little, I’m sure all my boys would love it now.
