Cafe Rio, the go-to restaurant when you’re craving delicious, freshly-made Mexican cuisine, is rolling out some great new menu items. For years, they’ve been known for their Sweet Pork Barbacoa, a savory pork that is simmered for hours in their super secret sauce. But, they’ve decided to shake things up and offer a Spicy Green Chile Pork that isn’t for the faint of heart.
I have to admit that I’m a little biased, since super spicy isn’t my thing. So, UnPhiltered Guy, our resident car aficionado who doubles as our food critic, weighed in with his opinion. Now, keep in mind, this is the person whose chili wins the “spiciest” category every. single. year. at our church’s cookoff and who sprinkles deathly ghost peppers on his food as nonchalantly as he does salt. His thoughts? Not too spicy – in fact, he chopped up the sizeable green chile pepper that graced his food and munched on that with the pork to give it a little more heat. He and his parents were squarely in the #TeamSpicy category and thought the newest pork added just the right amount of kick to Cafe Rio’s mouth-watering entrees.
Their recommendation? Grab the taco salad (it’s enough to feed you for two meals!) and ask for an extra pepper if you’re all about the spice.
For the fainter of heart (i.e. all my girlfriends and me) – #TeamSweet is still the way to go! There is a reason why it’s their signature meat and a comfort food when life is rough. 🙂
And, a little-known tip: If you’re craving seafood, drop by Cafe Rio on Saturdays, when they serve their sought-after shrimp tacos. Or, if you’re looking for fish for Lent, their fire grilled salmon is a tasty and healthy option and is offered every day!
