The month of love is right around the corner; and, whether you’re single or have been married for 50 years, you deserve a night out with a little chocolate. But, I know it’s not always feasible – romantic dates are hard to come by whether you’re an awkward freshman in college or a frazzled mom of toddlers. Goodness knows, our dates have morphed from candlelight to iPhone-light, plush movie theaters to Netflix, and Melting Pot fondue to lukewarm takeout. But, today, we’re sharing some of our favorite Valentine’s Day gift ideas; and hopefully, you’ll find something that piques your interest regardless of what season of life you’re in.
I love that Lansdowne Resort is hosting a few Valentine’s events on Saturday, February 10th. Many times, it’s hard to find a babysitter on a week night (not to mention, it’s difficult to squeeze in a date after a long day of work). For $50/couple (or free if you eat at their restaurant), you can learn the art of making truffles from scratch and infusing flavors to make the perfect filling. Or, if you’d prefer to learn how to cook your Valentine’s Day meal, you can join Celebrity Chef, Nandini Anant – MasterChef Season 3 and learn some tips of the trade for a mere $15/person.
Nothing says “Je t’aime” like a relaxing day at the spa. If your budget allows, Salamander Resort boasts a spacious couple’s suite with a double-sided fireplace, private garden terrace, grand whirlpool, steam shower and pedestal tub. Or, if you prefer a little me time by yourself, float in the infinity edge pool at the exclusive spa courtyard — where a private cabana awaits. On Valentine’s Day, you’ll even be sent home with a free spa gift!
With two locations in Northern Virginia (Ashburn & Reston), you’ll fall in love with this relatively new-on-the-scene restaurant. It’s one of our favorite date night destinations – their warm Chocolate Chip Cookie that comes sizzling to the table in its own cast iron skillet is the key to wooing me at any time of year. 😉
If you’re looking for a blend of outdoors and romantic dinner, Topgolf is your answer. With delicious meal options on site and private bays to rent ahead of time, you can enjoy a little friendly competition to reignite that spark.
Between February 14 – 17, 2018, the National Symphony Orchestra is celebrating Leonard Bernstein’s beloved updated interpretation of Romeo & Juliet in a thrilling performance of West Side Story, joined by a full cast of favorites from Broadway, and specially staged for the Concert Hall experience by a visionary creative team. Be sure to check out their MyTix program to see if you qualify – reduced priced tickets go on sale on January 29th!
Is your valentine still in elementary school? Disney on Ice presents Frozen is skating into Capital One Arena in Washington, DC between February 14 – 19, just in time to take in an exhilarating performance that will thrill your children.
Muse Paintbar has several locations throughout Northern Virginia and they are offering a fun Valentine’s Day art project. You can let your creative juices flow with your date (using 2 canvases) or solo (using 1 canvas).
Since I tasted Artisan Confections at Mosaic District many years ago, any other chocolate pales in comparison. They are a little pricey, so even now, my gift generally consists of 2-3 small squares that I savor for a few weeks. But, their velvety-creamy goodness is so worth it. If you’re looking for gift suggestions, I’d highly recommend their Salted Butter Caramel and Raspberry options.
I always walk slowly past the Alex and Ani display window when I’m at the mall (they even have stores in Hawaii!). But, sadly, John still hasn’t picked up on my really loud hints that they would make a superb gift – I just might have to buy a bracelet for myself. 🙂 They have a gorgeous limited edition collection of Valentine’s/love-themed jewelry, starting at an affordable $28.
