There are so many amazing events happening this weekend for the Fourth of July holiday! Here are a few of our favorites:
1. Fireworks at Great Meadows
On July 1st, from 4-11:00PM, enjoy a day of fun, family & fireworks at the 2017 Leckner Ford Great Meadow Independence Day Celebration! There will be a huge variety of children’s activities included with your general admission purchase. To list a few: rock wall for climbing, pony rides ($5), moon bounces, slides, the famous rain machine, lasertag, and more! Throughout the day enjoy a choreographed air performance, polo exhibitions, and rocketry demonstrations. The grand finale comes at dark with one of the metropolitan area’s biggest fireworks shows!
On July 1st, from 5:00 – 9:30PM, celebrate Independence Day with your family at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA. Enjoy art exhibits, food trucks, live music, and a spectacular fireworks show! Live music begins at 7pm and fireworks start at dusk, typically just after 9pm. General admission is free and you’re welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs; parking is available for $20/vehicle.
3. Maryland Symphony Orchestra’s Salute to Independence
On July 1st, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra’s concert begins at 7:30PM at the Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland, and the fireworks start at 9:45 PM. Be sure to bring a blanket, plenty of water or soft drinks, and a flashlight. Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service sells food and drinks at the event. Be prepared for large crowds of up to 20,000 people.
On Sunday, July 2, celebrate America’s most patriotic holiday at Lansdowne Resort and Spa, presented by Wegmans! This year, enjoy great food from local food trucks, local Virginia wineries and breweries, plus fun games for the little ones and adults. It all starts at 3:00 p.m. After the concert, stick around for a spectacular Zambelli Fireworks display.
5. Enjoy the Iconic Capitol Fourth
On July 4th, Emmy Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos is set to host the 37th annual edition of PBS’ A Capitol Fourth on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The all-star musical and fireworks extravaganza will kick off the country’s 241st birthday with performances by many iconic music legends. General admission gates open at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, July 4th – the concert begins at 8:00PM and runs through 9:30PM.
On Tuesday, July 4th, an American Celebration includes an inspirational naturalization ceremony for new citizens with a special keynote address, daytime fireworks, military re-enactments, a wreath-laying ceremony, free birthday cake (while supplies last), and a visit from General and Mrs. Washington. Enjoy a performance by the National Concert Band during its “Red, White and Blue” concert.
7. Relax at Gaylord National with their SummerFest Package
Gaylord National has discounted room rates for the Fourth of July weekend (and discounts for military families as well!). We loved their SummerFest package – be sure to check out our video to see all the fun experiences that National Harbor has to offer!
8. Fun at Port Discovery Children’s Museum
On July 4th, before you head out to see the fireworks at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, join Port Discovery for a Stars and Stripes Circle Time and patriotic crafts.
9. See a Nationals Game
On July 4th, the Washington Nationals will be playing the Mets, as part of their Patriotic Series. There will be in-field programming and pregame assets, themed giveaways, and patriotic uniforms to honor service members and their families.
10. Celebrate America’s Birthday in Alexandria
On Saturday, July 8, 2017, from 5 to 10 p.m., celebrate America’s 241st birthday and Alexandria’s 268th birthday along the Potomac waterfront at Oronoco Bay Park.
