It’s that time of year again! The lottery for the 2017 National Christmas Tree Lighting opens tomorrow. Fill out your “application” between 10 a.m. (ET) on Thursday, October 12 and ends at 10 a.m. (ET) on Monday, October 16. It’s a very simple process, and you’ll be done within a few minutes!
This year, the 95th National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on November 30, 2017. Wondering what exactly happens at the event? Here is a brief description from past years:
Nationally known entertainers and a United States military band add to the celebratory evening in which the President of the United States is invited to light the National Christmas Tree and bring a message of peace to the nation and world.
If you don’t get chosen, don’t worry, I’ve never been selected! You can join me in watching it via live webcast! 🙂 And, you can still visit the tree throughout December. The National Christmas Tree is lit every day from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. as part of the America Celebrates display at President’s Park (White House). This display is free to visit and open to the public from 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, through Thursday, January 1. The walkway surrounding the National Christmas Tree features 56 state and territory trees decorated with handmade ornaments that are unique to each tree.
