Print this coupon to shop for FREE

For those of you in Northern Virginia, this is a reminder that the HUGE consignment sale, Just Between Friends of Prince William County, is next weekend (May 12-13, 2012).  While I’ve never attended this sale, I love the Just Between Friends of Loudoun County, which is in our area – they always have terrific deals on almost-new clothing!

This consignment sale will be held at the Haymarket Sportsplex – Snyder Baseball Facility (6614 James Madison Highway, Haymarket, VA 20169).  It begins Friday (5/11) with the pre-sale shopping and continues through Sunday (5/13) with their 50% off sale between 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM!

If you are in the military, you will be able to shop the pre-sale FREE on Friday, between 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.  They do require a Military ID to enter per immediate family. {Please note this is for Military, not other Government branches.}  Or, if you’re a grandparent or first-time parent, you can shop the pre-sale between 6:30 – 9:00 PM.  They do require you to register for this presale. Your name will be at the door upon entry. To speed things up at the door, please feel free to bring the email confirmation that you receive when you sign up for the event.

For those of you who would like to shop the pre-sale and don’t fall into any of the above categories, you might consider volunteering (there are still slots available)!  The more hours you work, the earlier you will be able to shop on Friday.  For more details and to sign up for shifts, click here.

The “regular” sale begins Saturday (5/12) between 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.  Admission is $5/adult (children 18 and under are free) – but, print the above coupon and your admission fee will be waived!  On Sunday (5/13), the sale continues from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM and there will be no admission charge.

If you can’t make the Just Between Friends sale this weekend, be sure to check out our list of the top Spring 2012 Consignment Sales in the DC Metro area.

Last summer’s list of local family activities was so popular that I will be running a series of posts again, throughout the month of May.  Many of them will have giveaways to go along with them to make them even more exciting, so be sure to check back frequently!

One of my favorite family-friendly venues is Wolf Trap – their music programs are phenomenal, and I love all the guest artists they bring into town!  And, since any music sets my four year old’s feet tapping and arms waving, I’m thrilled that she’s finally old enough to enjoy Wolf Trap’s summer theatre this year!

Every summer, Wolf Trap hosts “Children’s Theatre-in-the Woods“, a beloved outdoor theatre for children, which has been a tradition for generations.  This annual series of over 30 performances kicks off on June 26th and continues through early August, and is set in a picturesque grove amidst 117 wooded acres.  These family-friendly shows last approximately 45-60 minutes, and begin at 10:30 AM on Tuesdays through Saturdays.  It’s a place where your children will enjoy lively adventures in music, dance, storytelling, puppetry, and theater. All performances are recommended for children between Pre-Kindergarten (age 4) and 6th grade.

The 2012 season will offer a diverse array of performance genres including kindie rock, Latin, Afro-Caribbean, country, folk, jazz, bluegrass, and pop-rock, as well as Irish dance, ballet, puppetry, and musical theatre. Thirteen new artists will grace the outdoor stage including Justin Roberts,German puppeteer Matthias Kuchta, jazz group Coal Train Railroad, and the  drama ensemble Pushcart Players. Three audience favorites will also return this year: the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance, DinoRock, and pop-rock singer Robbie Schaefer, the guitarist for the popular Virginia-based pop band Eddie from Ohio and host of Sirus XM Radio’s Kids Place Live. Do you enjoy music and the arts, but can’t justify spending oodles of money on tickets to The Kennedy Center?  Throughout the month of May, enjoy a free concert everyday at 6PM on Kennedy Center’s “Millennium Stage” (outside the Concert Hall and Eisenhower Theater).

Unfortunately, there is no free parking for free events – but, you can take the Metro to the Foggy Bottom/GWU station, then ride Kennedy Center’s free red shuttle at the top of the escalators.  It departs every 15 minutes to and from Kennedy Center until midnight.

If you are between 18‒30 years old or an active duty member of the armed services, be sure to join Kennedy Center’s MyTix Program.  They offer substantial discounts on tickets and run terrific ticket giveaways for the majority of their performances, including Broadway plays!  {Side Note: I’m living proof that the MyTix program works – in January, I won two tickets to enjoy a National Symphony Orchestra performance, simply by entering their giveaways!} To read more
